Philip W. Kell

President & CEO

Philip W. Kell joined the staff of California Baptist Foundation in 1992.  He served as Trust Counsel, General Counsel, Vice President of Trust Services, and Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer before becoming President on January 1, 2010.

Philip W. Kell joined the staff of California Baptist Foundation in 1992.  He served as Trust Counsel, General Counsel, Vice President of Trust Services, and Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer before becoming President on January 1, 2010.  

Prior to coming to the Foundation, Mr. Kell was engaged as an attorney in private practice in Sacramento for fifteen years and as a bi-vocational minister of music for eighteen years.  He was ordained as a deacon in 1988 and as a minister of the gospel in 1997.  He has remained active in local congregations by serving as a worship leader, a Sunday school teacher, a moderator, and a member of various committees and councils.  In addition he has served on committees and boards for local associations, the California Southern Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.  He currently serves on the Boards of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and the California Family Council, the California affiliate of Focus on the Family.

Mr. Kell received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree with a Concentration in Accounting from California State University at Sacramento in 1974 and a Juris Doctorate Degree from University of Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law in 1977.  In 2009 Mr. Kell received a Doctor of Laws Degree Honoris Causa from California Baptist University.

Douglas E. Griffin

Vice President & General Counsel

Douglas E. Griffin serves as the Foundation’s General Counsel and Vice President of the Trust Division.  Griffin is a Certified Estate Planning Specialist and is in charge of the Foundation’s estate planning, gift planning and development work.

Douglas E. Griffin serves as the Foundation’s General Counsel and Vice President of the Trust Division.  Griffin is a Certified Estate Planning Specialist and is in charge of the Foundation’s estate planning, gift planning and development work.

Prior to coming to the Foundation Griffin, was a partner with the law firm of Lang, Richert and Patch in Fresno where he specialized in estate and business planning, and probate and trust administration and litigation.  Griffin was in private practice for 15 years.  Prior to beginning his legal career Griffin worked as a paralegal specialist for the Internal Revenue Service, and in public relations for the Oakland Raiders.

Griffin has remained active in his local church as a children’s Sunday School teacher for almost 20 years, where he has also served as a trustee and a small group leader.  Griffin has also served on various other boards and committees in the community including for the Clovis Unified School District, the American Cancer Society and Leadership Fresno.

Griffin graduated with honors from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1993 after completing his undergraduate studies at San Jose State University where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Master in Business Administration degrees.

Ernest P.K. Ong

Vice President & CFO

Ernest Ong has been the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Foundation since October 1, 2012. Ong came to the Foundation in 1990 and served as accountant, senior accountant and controller before assuming his current position.

Ernest Ong has been the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Foundation since October 1, 2012. Ong came to the Foundation in 1990 and served as accountant, senior accountant and controller before assuming his current position.

Ong has been active in local churches, serving in various capacities including as worship leader, treasurer, teacher and committee member. Ong has also served on committees for his local association and the California Southern Baptist Convention. He has served on the Board of Directors for Sugar Pine Christian Camp and as the camp’s CFO for three years. Ong also served as the CFO and a board member for the Church Capital Fund, LLC and Miracle Terrace Retirement, Inc.

Ong received a B.B.A. in Accounting degree from Fresno State University in 1986 and a Masters of Business Administration Degree in Finance from National University in 2001.  Ong passed the Certified Public Accountants exam in 1996.  He also taught Finance and Accounting at the University of Phoenix for several years.
